I lie, dreaming, on an empty bed,

And thoughts of you run through my head,

Of your laughing eyes, and silky hair.

I’d like to dream, but do I dare?

Don Williams said, and sings it well,

But my timid heart’s afraid to tell.

While thoughts of you still fill my head,

I lie, dreaming, on this empty bed.

I’ll say it now, and hope it’s right,

You let me see Heaven last night.

No flowers to count on the wall,

I lie here waiting for your call.

I wonder if there’s something wrong?

Or, why do you not like my song?

Sweet thoughts of you still fill my head,

While lying on an empty bed.

To dream costs nothing, they all say.

My heart knows there’s a price to pay.

Wanting, waiting, doing without

When what you dream doesn’t work out.

Warm, moonlit nights, and skies of blue,

But mostly now I dream of you.

Then thoughts of you will fill my head,

While lying on this empty bed.

Some dreams just fade and leave you blue.

The wonder is, some dreams come true.

So I’ll dream on of what could be,

And have sweet dreams of you and me.

If this is how your dreams are made,

They may be dreams that never fade.

Our lives will then by dreams be led,

Then we’ll not dream on an empty bed.
